Greensboro Garden Club Dedicates Blue Star Memorial Marker at Veterans Memorial Garden

May 8th, 2025, was a history making day for the Greensboro Garden Club. For those who were unable to come, we missed you. The Greensboro HS Invincible Tiger Marching Band and AFJROTC made the event memorable!  These students, under the guidance of Mr Boone, Band Director and TSgt USAF instructor for the AFJROTC, were so delighted to play and present the colors—such a moving experience.

Greg Orllick, Deacon at Christ our King & Savior Catholic Church, gave the invocation and blessed the Marker, and the Closing Prayer.

The keynote speaker, our own Sheila Patterson, shared her thoughts and gratitude for those who have fought and fallen for our Freedom.

Diane Hunter, Garden Club of Georgia President, gave remarks. She expressed her pride and honor in attending the GGC Blue Star Dedication.

Cheryl Martin, Chair of the Veterans Memorial Garden, revealed the history of the Blue Star Marker as well as the Acceptance of the Marker as its caretaker.

Azalea District Director, Jan Stewart, laid flowers at the base of the Marker.

Jan Thiese gave us the dedication for the Blue Star Marker and Closing Remarks.

Many veterans were in attendance, many of whom represent Harbor Club and Del Webb communities. Greensboro City Councilwoman Cynthia Rivers, Greensboro City Manager Anton Hayes, and Schilmarker Smith, City Supervisor, who has assisted in our project and unveiled the Marker.

Friday Morning was another history making day for our club, as our Veterans Memorial Garden Sign was installed. Please drive by when you can, it’s beautiful.
