Mountain Mums Garden of the Month: A Tropical Touch at Home

After nine years in the Smoke Rise neighborhood in the Redbud District, Jay and Kellie Rappaport have turned their yard into a peaceful, vacation-inspired retreat. Growing up in Florida, Jay developed a lifelong fascination with palm trees—something that now defines his beautiful backyard. “Palm trees make you feel like you’re on vacation, even when you’re at home,” he shared.
Jay has personally planted every tree, plant, and flower in his backyard, creating a landscape filled with sabal palms, windmill palms, and a variety of colorful plantings. His dedication shows in every corner of the yard, bringing a touch of the tropics to our community.
